Kohl’s Pledge For Progress Supports Social Change

To foster effective social change, Kohl’s announced a Pledge for Progress in support of its expressed Core Beliefs.

The company plans to expand talent attraction practices to make meaningful connections with underrepresented professionals, with a specific focus on partnering with historically black colleges and universities, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and building relationships with black and Hispanic professional associations.

Kohl’s intends to enhance hiring practices, it pointed out, leveraging new recruitment tools and expanding search parameters to require diverse candidate slates at every level of the organization, and it will increase representation of women and black, indigenous and people of color across its leadership ranks.

The company said it aims to formally review the composition of leadership on a quarterly basis and take action to drive significant change, while offering new development, mentorship and sponsorship opportunities for underrepresented talent across the organization; and maintaining strong inclusion and address opportunities to strengthen belonging among underrepresented associate groups.

Kohl’s also pledged to increase relevance among black and Hispanic customers by launching an in-house Diversity Design Council to develop, purchase and/or curate culturally-pertinent products; and by leveraging the company’s scale, resources and expertise to empower diverse creators and businesses.

Kohl’s stated it also would invest more to support the unique needs of diverse, underserved communities with a focus on addressing disparities in career development, family support, housing and wellness, while doubling company spending among diverse suppliers.
