LG Electronics was named one of the world’s most sustainable companies in Corporate Knight’s 2015 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World Index and RobecoSAM’s 2015 Sustainability Yearbook. The company is also a 2014 Energy Star Partner of the Year.
“At LG, we consider the sustainability-related impacts of our business from a 360-degree perspective. We believe we have a shared responsibility to protect the environment and enhance the quality of life for the people in the communities in which we operate,” said William Cho, president and CEO, LG Electronics USA. “LG is honored to receive this recognition, a testament to the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility.”
The 2015 Global 100 cited LG as the only honoree in the Household Durables sector, lifting the company’s ranking this year to 51, from 82 in 2014. The 2015 Global 100 scores companies’ key performance indicators that range from energy and water use, to product leadership and operational excellence to employee compensation and tax strategy.
Meanwhile, RobecoSAM awarded LG with a Gold Medal, the top prize in its Leisure and Consumer Electronics category for its 2015 Sustainability Yearbook. It also recognized LG as one of the few companies in its yearbook this year, to be considered both a “Sustainability Leader” and “Sustainability Mover.”
RobecoSAM evaluates companies on a variety of factors including economics, innovation, supply chain management, elimination of hazardous substances, energy efficient products, product stewardship and recycling, labor practices and stakeholder engagement.
