Lowe’s To Expand Presence In Western Canada

Lowe’s Companies Canada will expand its presence in the country with the opening of up to 45 new locations in the company’s fiscal year 2010.

The home improvement chain plans to open three stores in the Calgary region with further plans to expand into Edmonton, British Columbia and Saskatchewan in future years. Lowe’s first opened Canadian stores in December 2007 and now operates 15 stores in Ontario.

“Lowe’s has been warmly welcomed by Canadian consumers over the past two years, and our research shows that our innovative products and passion for superior customer service will appeal to home improvement enthusiasts across Western Canada, as well,” said Alan Huggins, president, Lowe’s Canada. “This week, Lowe’s celebrates our second anniversary in Ontario, and we remain on track with our goals to bring great products and outstanding customer service to homeowners and commercial customers across Canada.”

In 2005, Lowe’s announced plans to open its first stores in the Greater Toronto Area, with as many as 100 stores across Canada over time. The company opened its Canadian headquarters in Toronto in 2006 and now has more than 2,300 employees in the Canadian office and stores.
