Macy’s Expands Loyalty Card Program

In conjunction with a recent operational reorganization, Macy’s is updating its loyalty program to give consumers more ways of participating.

Now, under the Macy’s Star Rewards program, every member can earn reward points on all of their merchandise purchases, regardless of how they pay. In addition, shoppers can spend rewards on all their favorite products, including top brands.

To celebrate the loyalty program update, Macy’s is giving away 5 million loyalty program points, with 50 Star Rewards members scoring 100,000 points each. The point total translates to $1,000 in the program’s Star Money. Star Rewards members can enter the sweepstakes via Macy’s mobile app between February 10 and 23. Macy’s also will kick off exclusive shopping events at select stores on February 15, during which customers can learn more about new Star Rewards while enjoying promotions.

Based on their annual spending, Macy’s cardholders are enrolled automatically in Star Rewards at one of three levels, Silver, Gold or Platinum. Customers who don’t have a Macy’s card can enroll in the Bronze level in store, online or through the mobile app. All Star Rewards members enjoy special benefits, including Star Money Bonus Days, when customers can earn bonus points toward Star Money faster as well as perks and offers such as extra savings, access to exclusive events and a birthday surprise. Consumers qualify for bigger benefits as they spend more money and proceed to higher reward levels.

“With nearly 30 million members and growing, Macy’s Star Rewards program has been a huge hit,” said Rich Lennox, Macy’s chief customer officer. “We hugged our best customers with the relaunch in October 2017 and then expanded it in 2018 to all customers. We have seen strong results and received positive customer feedback. With this next phase of the program, all customers will earn rewards on everything they buy, except gift cards, services and fees, and can redeem on anything they choose. In the simplest terms, it’s how we love our customers back.”
