A recent survey conducted for Macy’s by Harris Poll found that 1 in 4 respondents plan to buy a home goods item as a gift during the 2014 holiday season.
While the poll did not offer specifics on the types of home products shoppers may purchase, retailers including Macy’s over the past few weeks have promoted items including coffee making products and blenders as key gift giving items.
Among the most popular gifts consumers said they play to purchase this year are gift cards (61%), clothing (52%) and toys and games (48%).
In addition, the survey of nearly 1,700 adults conducted in late October also found that 43% of men have searched for hidden gifts at home or tried to figure out what was inside a gift intended for them, compared to 35% of women.
The difference is even greater among Millennials— 44% of men (ages 18-34) have searched for hidden gifts at home compared to 19% of their female counterparts. When it comes to hiding gifts to keep them a surprise, nearly three in five (58%) holiday shoppers have hidden gifts for family members.
