The August 19 edition of HOMEWORLD BUSINESS® revealed the 14th annual “People To Watch” in housewares during the next 12 months.
Selected by HomeWorld Business editors, “People To Watch” represents a cross section of a diverse housewares business— from established to newly installed company leaders; from large to small operations, from big-box to specialty retailers; from trade show managers to celebrity endorsers.
The HomeWorld “People To Watch” are in the spotlight not only for how they might impact their respective organizations in the coming months, but also for how they might impact the overall housewares business.
Mark Eichhorn, The Oneida Group, CEO
CREDENTIALS: Mark Eichhorn was named CEO of The Oneida Group late in 2018 and previously served as president and CEO of The Oneida Group’s core business, Anchor Hocking, from 1994 to 1999 and its predecessor company, EveryWare Global, Inc., from 2004 to 2012.
In addition to his earlier tenure with The Oneida Group board and as president and CEO of Anchor Hocking, Eichhorn has held other leadership positions with Anchor Hocking, Newell Rubbermaid and Rubbermaid Home Products. Most recently, he served as CEO of Hollander Sleep Products and prior to that, president and CEO of Columbian Home Products.
WHAT TO WATCH: Under his leadership the company has revamped its presence this year with a new showroom at Forty One Madison and new booth at the International Home + Housewares Show, underscoring its commitment to bringing energy to the brand. This year Oneida introduced several new flatware designs that reflected its expertise in the category, and also tapped into new design directions driven by consumer feedback. In addition, Eichhorn and his team are accelerating efforts to increase production capacity, heightening its focus on customer service and making growth-oriented investments that support its brands. One such investment has been the introduction of updated packaging with a more minimalist feel with a focus on the branding and pattern description.
The Oneida Group also has Anchor Hocking under its portfolio and Eichhorn will also be working to take advantage of the synergies between Oneida’s tabletop expertise and Anchor Hocking to build out the breadth of tableware products.
PERSPECTIVE: “The return of the Oneida retail business has created a tremendous opportunity to leverage our industry expertise and the strengths of our brands to not only reclaim a dominant market position, but also drive category growth for our customers,” Eichhorn said. “The debut of our new flatware designs marks a significant step to that end and is indicative of the commitment to brand investment Oneida was built upon and our customers should continue to expect.”
