Opening day, October 29, of the Fall New York Tabletop Market at Forty One Madison was full of energy, innovation and inspiration. Nature and technology emerged as two important themes throughout many of the showrooms as vendors brought forth their latest endeavors in tabletop.
Several vendors paid homage to the softer side of nature with a return to florals— but in a fresh updated way. Oversized blooms were found gracing several new dinnerware patterns, as were watercolors and traditional florals in new color combinations.
Lifetime Brands showcased its newest take on florals for its Mikasa brand, a trio of fine china patterns, each with its own distinct personality: Rory, a soft modern watercolor motif; Dorit, a soft black and white take on traditional florals; and Rosalie, a bolder floral set against a dramatic black background.
Lenox also brought forth its new take on florals with the motif Sprig and Vine collection, which adds pops of gold to a deeper palette of jeweled pastels with touches of gold. The company is also celebrating the 20th anniversary of Butterfly Meadow, adding a gold butterfly to the classic pattern.
Organic shapes also took residence in many showrooms as vendors such as Oneida are merging classic dinnerware patterns with more freeform shapes to give consumers a fresh take. The company is also introducing several new flatware patterns to complement its dinnerware, providing consumers with a choice of classic, rustic and contemporary styles.
Technology also played a large role across several of the showrooms as several dinnerware vendors showcased their latest ventures in reactive glazes. Gibson Overseas continues to expand its offerings, with vibrant colors and interesting textures.
