Nest Labs, Inc. has updated its smart home product portfolio, including the new Nest Cam, the second generation Nest Protect alarm, new features for the Nest Learning Thermostat, and a brand new app.
The company also stated that home insurance companies including American Family and Liberty Mutual Insurance will offer discounts for Nest customers in select markets, with plans to expand those programs in the future.
“We’ve built a portfolio of best-in-class products that each stand on their own while doing more together,” said Tony Fadell, Nest CEO. “More than 9,000 developer partners are using the Works with Nest developer program to help seamlessly integrate everything from washers and dryers to cars with our thermostat, smoke alarm and camera. And we’re working with energy and insurance partners to bring more value to our shared customers.”
Nest’s updated and new products include:
- Nest Cam. With full high-definition video quality, a versatile stand, and improved motion alerts and night vision, the new Nest Cam allows consumers to keep watch on their home from anywhere. It is available for purchase now, has an SRP of $199 and will begin shipping this month. In addition, consumers can purchase Nest Aware with video history, as a 10-day or 30-day subscription for $10 or $30 per month, respectively.
- Nest Protect. The second generation Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm offers a custom, split-spectrum sensor that uses two wavelengths of light to look for different types of fires. Nest Protect alarms can now be silenced from a consumer’s phone. It is available for purchase now, has an SRP of $99 and will begin shipping next month.
- Nest Learning Thermostat. The Nest Learning Thermostat will now notify consumers when temperatures drop in the home, to help avoid frozen pipes, as well as additional new integrations with other Nest products. The Nest Learning Thermostat software 4.5 will be rolling out to customers over the next few weeks.
- Nest App 5.0. The redesigned Nest app 5.0 brings together all three Nest products, across multiple platforms, enabling consumers to access and control Nest products. Nest app 5.0 is available now in the Google Play Store and iOS App Store.
Consumers can purchase the Nest Cam and the second generation Nest Protect at Nest’s website, as well as from a range of retail partners, including Amazon, Best Buy, Google Play, The Home Depot, Lowe’s and Target in the U.S. The Nest Aware with video history subscription is available exclusively at the Nest website or through the Nest app.
