As consumers hit stores and e-commerce outlets to meet their holiday shopping needs, home products are “leaving their mark” on Holiday 2015, according to The NPD Group.
“Consumers told us early in their holiday shopping plans that they were planning on spending more on home products this year, and now, according to NPD’s Checkout Tracking service, we also know that appliances were among just a few categories that increased their share of spend on both Thanksgiving and Black Friday,” said Lora Morsovillo, president, home, NPD Group.
She noted that key factors in driving interest for home products as gifts have been new introductions that feature innovation and design, which are similar factors that have spurred industry growth in recent years.
For example, Morsovillo pointed to the technology and innovation in robotic vacuums as providing a “fun factor” that makes giving a vacuum cleaner as a gift acceptable.
Among the other home products that NPD feels will be “winners” this holiday season are single-serve coffeemakers, home soda machines, portable beverage containers (tumblers and travel mugs) and open stock coffee and tea mugs.
