NY Now has awarded three suppliers top honors in its Eco-Choice Awards. A trio of yew wood hand-turned bowls by Phil Gautreau Wood Design; vintage heirloom rugs and pillows by Shupaca; and bamboo straws by Bambu have been named the award winners in the Most Sellable, Most Sensitive Use of Materials and Most Innovative categories, respectively.
The 12th semi-annual Eco Choice Awards had 258 entries of which close to 120 qualified. Products must by manufactured or constructed only of recycled, recyclable and/or sustainable materials and an emphasis must be placed on socially responsible and fair trade business practices. The entries were narrowed down to ten finalists in each of the three categories, and then the winners were selected by online voting.
“The popularity of the Eco Choice Awards in general, and the increasingly stiff competition for top honors in particular, reflects the ongoing vitality of eco-friendly and socially-responsible products and production processes,” said Scott Kramer, NY Now show director and vice president.
Award-winning products will be showcased within the “SustainAbility: design for a better world” display at the summer 2015 edition of NY Now to be held August 15-19 at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
