Online Spending Gains, With Home Among Advancing Categories

Consumer spending on the Internet in the week ending December 26 gained 17% to $2.45 billion in a holiday season that, beginning in November and continuing through the day after Christmas, saw consumer online spending increase 13% to $30.81 billion.
According to comScore, Christmas week saw ecommerce spending that compared favorably to the Black Friday, Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday combination, which generated spending of about $2.08 billion online.
Year-over-year, Thanksgiving generated the biggest spending gain of the major Black Friday dates, up 28% to $407 million, but Free Shipping Day saw the largest leap forward of the major identified Web sales occasions, with spending up 61% to $942 million.
When analyzed by category, as identified by comScore, the home-related Furniture, Appliances & Equipment designation advanced by 8% online.
