Beau Parker

The August 17 edition of HOMEWORLD BUSINESS® revealed the 10th Annual “Players,” 20 people to watch in housewares during the next 12 months.

Player’s CredentialsBeau Parker, CEO of Smith’s Consumer Products, Inc., joined the company in April to replace retiring CEO Dan Glidden, who had served in the role since 2007. Prior to joining the sharpening and specialized tools company, Parker had experience in the floor care appliances and tools business as the gm of Oreck and TTI. He began his sales and marketing career with Stanley Black & Decker and later became president of the power tool accessory business for the company. 

What To Watch: Smith’s markets its full line of sharpeners and specialized tools under the brands Smith’s, KitchenIQ and FireWire across a range of retail channels from mass to gourmet specialty. The company is aiming to expand its housewares brands and sharpening product mix with a focus on quality and design innovation, and then support that expansion with aggressive marketing efforts, Parker said. To make it a winning strategy, Parker noted that the marketing will align with the company’s retail partners to drive traffic and growth. 

In addition to Parker’s appointment, several other key promotions were made in the organization. Mark Adkison, formerly vp/global sales, was promoted to the newly created position of chief marketing officer, and Jeff Scanlon was brought on as vp/global sales. According to Parker, the new appointments will better position the company for long-term growth. 

Perspective: “Next year marks Smith’s 130th anniversary. We have just opened a new office in Nashville, TN, tied to investments to help us to expand and recruit new employees to better serve the global market while keeping our core warehouse and operations in Arkansas where the company was founded. We just recently hired Jeff Scanlon as our new vp/global sales with prior sales leadership roles at Newell and TTI Floor Care. We will be investing in more Made in U.S.A. products along with new hiring. We are excited about the future, and are excited to invest in and build our new KitchenIQ premium and gourmet housewares brand,” said Parker.
