The August 17 edition of HOMEWORLD BUSINESS® revealed the 10th Annual “Players,” 20 people to watch in housewares during the next 12 months.
Selected by HomeWorld Business editors, the Players represent a cross section of a diverse housewares business— from established to newly installed company leaders; from large to small operations, from big-box to specialty retailers; from trade show managers to celebrity endorsers.
The HomeWorld Players are in the spotlight not only for how they might impact their respective organizations in the coming months, but also for how they might impact the overall housewares business.
Player’s Credentials: Marc Navarre joined Focus Products Group International as president and CEO in 2013. Prior to joining Focus, Navarre held roles with multiple consumer product organizations including consumer electronics, kitchen appliances, cookware and home textiles businesses through which he has built a track record of leading and integrating acquisitions. His previous president and CEO positions include Patriarch Partners, Groupe SEB North America, All-Clad Metalcrafters and Krups.
Since taking the helm at Focus Products, the company has entered new partnerships to expand its collection of licensed housewares, such as Hershey’s bakeware, small electrics and kitchen tools. The company has grown the West Bend brand with new products, acquired American bakeware manufacturer Lloyd Industries to produce Chicago Metallic made in the U.S. goods, and has acquired wine and spirit aerator developer Vinturi.
What To Watch: Over the next year, Navarre noted that innovation, a strategic distribution plan and acquisitions would be key goals for growing the company and its product lines. For example, in expanding the reach of the company’s legacy brand West Bend, Navarre initiated the West Bend Professional brand to extend the brand into premium distribution channels. This offering is an extension of the core West Bend product assortment, and complements the brand’s collection of popcorn makers.
“We are very proud of this approach and the merchandising and assortments available in the marketplace. We want to consistently bring the right products to the right partners,” Navarre said.
Going forward, Navarre said the company would continue to look for acquisitions that enhance the company’s strategy and strengthen its portfolio in housewares to fuel growth.
Perspective: “We believe with every acquisition there is an opportunity to elevate and expand the brand through innovation, product assortment and marketing to create newness and excitement in the marketplace. This is at the core of who we are,” Navarre said.
