The August 17 edition of HOMEWORLD BUSINESS® revealed the 10th Annual “Players,” 20 people to watch in housewares during the next 12 months.
Selected by HomeWorld Business editors, the Players represent a cross section of a diverse housewares business— from established to newly installed company leaders; from large to small operations, from big-box to specialty retailers; from trade show managers to celebrity endorsers.
The HomeWorld Players are in the spotlight not only for how they might impact their respective organizations in the coming months, but also for how they might impact the overall housewares business.
Player’s Credentials: Ree Drummond is a successful food and lifestyle blogger that has burst into the mainstream in the past few years. A cowboy’s wife and a mother of four, Drummond documented her life on the ranch through her blog, The Pioneer Woman, which she started in 2006. Now, she is the author of two cookbooks, has her own television show on Food Network, is a sought-after brand ambassador and licensee and has a growing social media following. She was also named one of Forbes magazine’s top web celebrities in 2010.
What To Watch: Drummond has built a personal brand for herself, and is knowledgeable in knowing what works and what doesn’t for her audience. As Drummond’s star continues to rise in the world of food and cooking, her brand name will continue to gain recognition in housewares.
She has continued to gain market visibility with a new line of housewares, in partnership with Gibson, which launched earlier this year with 100 SKUs. The Pioneer Woman collection includes cookware, bakeware, cutlery, kitchenware and gadgets and is currently being sold in national retail outlets.
The housewares connect with the way Drummond uses them in real life, continuing to build on her personal celebrity brand as well as staying authentic to fans that have been following her since the start of her blogging days. Drummond herself has also put her signature touch on the products in every aspect from design to the packaging.
“Collaborating with Gibson has been a match made in heaven,” she said. “From the get-go, the team at Gibson has understood the Pioneer Woman brand, and we have been true collaborators throughout the process.”
Perspective: “With everything I have done with Pioneer Woman, whether my cookbooks or the episodes of my cooking show, it has always been important to me to stay true to myself and my lifestyle. The housewares industry is all about creating and promoting products that make our lives at home easier, better, friendlier, happier. With that as an underlying goal, the possibilities are endless,” said Drummond.
