The August 17 edition of HOMEWORLD BUSINESS® revealed the 10th Annual “Players,” 20 people to watch in housewares during the next 12 months.
Selected by HomeWorld Business editors, the Players represent a cross section of a diverse housewares business— from established to newly installed company leaders; from large to small operations, from big-box to specialty retailers; from trade show managers to celebrity endorsers.
The HomeWorld Players are in the spotlight not only for how they might impact their respective organizations in the coming months, but also for how they might impact the overall housewares business.
Player’s Credentials: Since becoming president of DKB Household USA in 2010, Will Symonds has grown DKB into a multi-brand housewares company, expanding the presence of both Zyliss and Cole & Mason in the market. The DKB Household USA business has more than doubled over the last five years and Symonds said that the business continues to grow aggressively.
Symonds began his career in the industry in 2003 when he joined U.K. housewares company William Levene in London, where he was responsible for the international sales operation. In 2006, Diethelm Keller Brands (DKB) acquired the company and the William Levene team was given Zyliss to manage globally alongside Cole & Mason, Ken Hom and Jamie Oliver.
What To Watch: With an established kitchenware brand presence in the U.S. market, Symonds said that he intends to continue developing leadership in the categories that the brands are currently active in, as well as carefully entering new housewares product categories. Symonds noted that management of the company’s resources, as well as the financial strength of the DKB holding company in Switzerland, also support the company’s organic growth.
Over the past five years, DKB Household USA has also recruited and built an entrepreneurial, customer-focused culture in its U.S. offices, Symonds noted. That team will help execute a five-year plan for the company that includes being more impactful in the market by investing in product development, brand awareness and in meeting the needs of its customers.
Perspective: “We will keep innovating in a way that expands the consumer awareness and advocacy of our brands. We will over-invest in our supply chain and customer service. Our deep understanding of the American consumer, coupled with our ability to execute marketing campaigns digitally and in-store with our retail partners, will ensure that Zyliss and Cole & Mason will continue to grow in presence in the marketplace,” said Symonds.
