Philips Sonicare has introduced a rechargeable toothbrush for kids, equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology. In addition, the company launched a coordinating, interactive coaching app that connects to the toothbrush via Bluetooth.
The company explained that the app features “Sparkly,” a kid-friendly personal brushing coach to teach proper brushing techniques and reward kids for doing a thorough job each time they brush. The company has included fun, educational games to encourage kids to brush longer each time, building up to the dental professional-recommended two minutes. A separate dashboard in the app allows parents to monitor their child’s performance and progress, as well as set up custom milestones and incentives to keep them motivated.
“With the Philips Sonicare For Kids’ Sparkly brushing coach playfully encouraging good oral care habits, the bathroom will become less of a battle ground and kids will look forward to brushing their teeth,” said Boon Lai, vp/marketing for Philips North America.
The new toothbrush for kids is equipped with the same sonic technology that is found in Philips Sonicare power toothbrushes that drives fluid between teeth and along the gum-line for a gentle clean.
Features of the new toothbrush include eight peel-and-stick designs inspired by “Sparkly” for boys and girls, allowing children to customize their toothbrush; KidTimer gradually increases to two minutes to train kids to brush for the dentist-recommended time; and easy grip handle.
The Philips Sonicare For Kids toothbrush is available now at Amazon, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and other retailers and has a suggested retail price of $49.99. The app is available to download on iPhone and iPad devices, with an Android version to follow by end of September.
