SAN FRANCISCO— Prestagon has recently introduced the PlateTopper, an airtight container for plates, which acts as an “eco-friendly” alternative to covering food on plates with plastic wrap and aluminum foil, according to the company. The PlateTopper is targeted toward the mass retail channels.
The company cited the Natural Resources Defense Council in that Americans waste an estimated 40% of their entire food supply, or an equivalent of $165 billion each year. PlateTopper’s airtight suction seal is designed to prevent food from spoiling, which would help decrease both food waste and the use of disposable storage products, according to Prestagon.
The PlateTopper is dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe, as well as BPA free. It also acts as a splatter, spill and bug safeguard, according to the company.
In addition, PlateTopper is available in a variety of colors. The 10-inch size fits standard dinner plates, including plastic, glass and ceramic, and even fits large wood cutting boards. There is also a 7.5-inch PlateTopper Mini that fits salad and snack plates.
