In a move that furthers the company’s expansion in Virginia, Publix has agreed to purchase 10 stores from Ahold USA’s affiliate, Giant/Martin’s.
The purchase is contingent on the United States Federal Trade Commission’s approval and clearance of a pending merger between supermarket operators Ahold and Delhaize. The locations include stores in the towns of Colonial Heights, Glen Allen, Henrico, Midlothian and Richmond.
“Acquiring these 10 locations aligns with Publix’s aggressive growth plan for the commonwealth of Virginia,” said Todd Jones, Publix president and CEO. “We are looking forward to providing Virginians with the high-quality service and products our customers have come to expect and have earned us recognition throughout the industry.”
Publix operates 1,119 supermarkets in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina.
