Regional department store chain Belk may be up for sale.
On Thursday, Reuters reported that the Charlotte-based retailer has hired Goldman Sachs to evaluate “strategic alternatives” that could include a possible sale.
A call to Belk by homeworldbusiness.com seeking comment on the report was not immediately returned.
The family owned company, founded by William Henry Belk in 1888, has 297 stores in 16 states, according to information from Belk’s website.
The company reported annual sales of $4.1 billion in its most recent fiscal year. In 2013, Belk’s housewares sales were $133 million, according to HomeWorld Business’ Top 100 Housewares Retailers report.
