Report: Walmart Overhauling Buying Operations

Walmart is revamping its buying operations and will mesh its store and online merchants in an effort to streamline operations and better compete with Amazon, Reuters reported on Tuesday, February 14.

The decision, which the report said would be officially announced at a forthcoming meeting with vendors, would lead to a single buying team in Bentonville, AR, for products that are sold in-stores and online.

The buying team based in California would still handle products sold online only and store suppliers that sell products exclusively online will also continue working with the dot-com merchants.

A Walmart spokesperson told Reuters that the retailer is looking to create a “more efficient process” to how the company brings products to its stores and online.
