In the Corporate Equality Index, published annually by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, major retailers were among those companies earning top scores of 100.
With 686 companies earning the top rating, the 2020 index has the highest number of companies in the CEI’s 18-year history to hit 100, beating last year’s total of 572.
Retailers scoring a perfect 100 include major broadliners such as Walmart, Target and Amazon. Others earning a top score included Best Buy, Food Lion, Giant Food Stores, Giant of Maryland, Hannaford Supermarkets, Ikea, Kohl’s, Kroger, Lowe’s, Macy’s, Meijer, Nordstrom, Office Depot, Peapod, Qurate, Staples, Stop & Shop, Williams-Sonoma and Walgreens.
Top-rated employers come from almost every industry and region of the U.S., the foundation stated. Employers earning top ratings took substantial steps to ensure equity for LGBTQ workers and their families in the form of comprehensive policies, benefits and practices.
Three factors underlie CEI ratings: non-discrimination policies across business entities, equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families, and supporting an inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility.
