Rite Aid Sales Gain In August

For the five weeks ended August 29, Rite Aid Corp. comparable store sales gained 1.6% over the prior-year period, according to the company. August front-end same store sales increased 0.6% from the quarter a year ago.

Total drug store sales for the five-week period increased 1.6%, the company reported, to $2.55 billion versus the same period last year.

Comps for the 13-week period second quarter ended August 29 increased 2.1% over the year-earlier period. Front-end comps advanced 0.3%.

Total drug store sales for the quarter increased 1.9%, the company maintained, to $6.6 billion.
