Sam’s Club Emphasizes Wellness With Telehealth Deal

In another indication that wellness is becoming a bigger influence on retail, Sam’s Club has entered into a collaboration with virtual primary care provider 98point6 to provide its members exclusive telehealth virtual clinic services via a text-based app.

Through the collaboration with 98point6, Sam’s Club members with either a club or a plus membership can purchase a quarterly subscription at a lower exclusive introductory fee of $20 for the first three months of service per participant versus 98point6’s regular sign-up fee of $30 per participant. The subscription includes unlimited visits for just $1 with access to board-certified doctors 24 hours a day, seven days a week. After the first three months, Sam’s Club members will pay $33.50 every three months per participant.

Sam’s Club members can purchase quarterly subscriptions instead of paying an annual fee as is usual with 98point6. Members also will have access to pediatric care for additional subscribed family members ages 1 and over.

Physicians on 98point6 app can diagnose and treat more than 400 common conditions as well as provide care, guidance, and monitoring of chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma, heart disease, depression and anxiety. In addition, 98point6 subscribers can get necessary prescriptions or labs ordered. Members-only savings on prescriptions including pet medications, as well as access to low-cost optical and hearing aid services and immunizations.

“Offering access to telemedicine was on our roadmap in the pre-COVID world, but the current environment expedited the need for this service to be easily accessible, readily available and most of all, affordable,” said John McDowell, Sam’s Club vp/pharmacy operations and divisional merchandise. “Through providing access to the 98point6 app in a pilot, we quickly realized that our members were eager to have mobile telehealth options, and we wanted to provide this health care solution to all of our members as a standalone option.”
