Simon Out, Foran In As Walmart U.S. CEO

Bill Simon is leaving Walmart, succeeded as president and CEO of Walmart U.S. by Greg Foran, who has been CEO of Walmart China. The company stated that Foran will assume his responsibilities on August 9 and will report to Walmart president and CEO, Doug McMillon.

Simon will remain in a consulting capacity for the next six months, Walmart noted.

Foran joined Wal-Mart in October 2011 and became Walmart China CEO in March 2012. Before joining Walmart, Foran held executive positions with Woolworths, the leading retailer in Australia and New Zealand.

“Greg is one of the most talented retailers I’ve ever met,” said McMillon, in announcing the executive shift. “His depth of knowledge and global experience will bring a fresh perspective to our business. His passion for fresh food, experience in general merchandise and commitment to E-commerce will help us serve our customers even more effectively for years to come.”

Walmart said it would announce Foran’s successor as president and CEO of Walmart Asia at a later date.

Simon has been a high-profile executive at Walmart. McMillon was appointed CEO of the company in November, 2013. He had been CEO of Walmart International.
