Stop & Shop Moves Forward On A&P Conversions

Northeast grocer Stop & Shop is moving forward with the conversions of 25 former A&P stores in the New York metropolitan area.

According to Stop & Shop, the third wave of conversions started October 22, and each location is scheduled to be closed for seven days.

While the extent of the remodels and addition of new amenities will vary by store, each location will reopen as a Stop & Shop store format and be refreshed with new decor, updated refrigeration systems, new lighting, state-of-the-art technology and other improvements.

Following the bankruptcy filing by A&P this past summer, Stop & Shop purchased 25 A&P stores in the metro New York area in a deal valued at $146 million.
