Table + Dine, Altoona Team On Disposable Tableware Line

NASHVILLE, TN— Inspired by her two decades as a creative partner for several brands and retailers in the housewares industry, Deborah Shearer, founder and CEO of marketing/merchandising firm, Table + Dine, has launched a collection of fashion-forward disposable paper tableware.

Dubbed Table + Dine by Deborah Shearer by Altoona Designs, the line pairs Shearer’s design vision with Altoona Designs, a Newark, NJ-based manufacturer of luxury placemats and chargers. The initial launch includes four mix-and-match collections of decorative placemats, chargers, place cards and plate accents, a new idea that Shearer developed. The plate accent, she said, is a paper disk that fits in the well of a plate, that can be personalized for guests and used to elevate basic white dinnerware.

“I’ve always enjoyed being an inspiration for gatherings, so what could be better than putting my brand and name on products that create those family gatherings, friends and family around the table with food, drink, laughter and sharing conversation? Through my business and personal experience, I’ve also come to know the importance of making it easy for any hostess to entertain, because entertaining shouldn’t be complicated— but fun, affordable and simple for any aspiring hostess,” said Shearer.

The new line launched with four collections, all of which feature a textured effect, and are made in the USA. The collections include: Take the Laguna Blue Hydrangea, which features hydrangeas, polka dots and stripes; the Elle Collection, a black and white collection of buffalo plaid, a textured Trellis print, laurel stripes and a starburst print; Red Vintage Truck, an all-over pattern of a holiday-inspired red truck and painted red stripes; and the Anais Collection, an all-over vintage floral print, a coordinating woven solid and a painted “xoxo” print designed with Valentine’s Day in mind.

The designs are a part of Altoona’s newly created fashion division, which the company developed in an effort to offer mix and match collections that make it easy for the modern hostess to set a stylish table affordably.

“We’re looking to reach the modern party hostess, event planners and those looking to style their table with paper for easy entertaining. We’re also interested in customer’s like myself. I may not have enough placemats or chargers for a large gathering at my home or an outside venue, but I can decorate my table with chic paper and make it festive at a reasonable price,” said Shearer.

The collection is currently being rolled out to independent stores, as well as key accounts. Shearer and Altoona are also working with social media influencers and bloggers to help get the word out about the line.

“There’s some real talent out there amongst the tabletop community. They will play an important role in helping us to excite and inspire the consumer,” said Shearer.

In addition, Shearer noted that she and Altoona recently appointed a new sales team for the collection and is currently developing new products and collections, based on consumer insights and feedback from the initial launch.

“Today’s tabletop customer looks to be inspired. With the current home entertaining and casual lifestyle trend, the consumer is purchasing differently than ever before. They’re registering and setting their tables with less formal dinnerware, curating and layering colors, patterns and elements to create meaningful gatherings. Once I began the process with Altoona, I made it my goal to be part of those celebrations by designing disposable mix-and-match paper collections that make it easy to set a stylish table for any occasion,” Shearer said.
