As restrictions tighten amidst the continued spread of the Covid-19 virus around the globe, vendors in the U.K. have temporarily halted production, in line with local governmental guidelines.
According to news reports, Portmeirion, based in Stoke, England, has halted production at its London Road factory for at least three weeks and employees will receive 80% of their pay, per that government’s coronavirus support package. The news comes after the manufacturer already closed its retail shops.
In the media report, Phil Atherton, group sales and marketing director at Portmeirion, also stated that the company’s warehouse, located in Trentham Lakes, remains open in order to serve its global customers.
Steelite International, a tableware manufacturer serving the hospitality industry, located in Middleport, England, has also temporarily halted production at its factory and has also closed its Newcastle warehouse.
According to a local news outlet, the company has placed the majority of its employees on furlough at least until April 20, and will receive full pay.
Steelite recently acquired the Homer Laughlin China Company’s food service division.
