Some 13 months after Staples’ effort to acquire Office Depot was quashed by a Federal judge, the Massachusetts-based office superstore may soon have a new owner.
Staples has named Michelle Bottomley its new chief marketing officer. In this role, she will be responsible for marketing across the office superstore chain, helping to promote the company’s pivot to focusing on its North American delivery business.
Investment firm Platinum Equity has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Staples business in Australia and New Zealand.
Staples has appointed Jeff Hall to the newly created role of chief administrative officer and vice chairman.
Staples reported a decline in sales during its third quarter, asserting that results were in line with its strategic expectations. The company also agreed to sell its retail business in the United Kingdom to Hilco Capital Ltd.
