Target is launching same-day delivery to the greater New York metropolitan area in late July and early August through its Shipt online delivery marketplace.
According to the retailer, some 55,000 products including home and groceries will be part of the same-day shipping program. Residents in the Hudson Valley and Kingston, NY, will be the first to have access to the program. It will then be expanded to Long Island, the five boroughs and Mount Kisco and White Plains through the first half of August.
“Shipt’s continued growth across New York provides an added layer of convenience to the lives of on-the-go commuters and families alike, who will now have the opportunity to access the products they love at the press of a button,” said Bill Smith, founder and chief executive officer, Shipt.
The program builds upon Shipt’s recent growth into upstate New York in June. Cumulatively, the expansion gives more than 1.3 million households across New York City and surrounding areas access to products delivered by Shipt in as little as one hour, the company said. To celebrate the launch, new Shipt members who sign up before August 14 will receive an annual membership for $49 (regularly $99).
Leading up to the launch, Shipt plans to add more than 2,000 new shoppers across New York City and surrounding areas to be part of the fulfillment team.
