U.S. Manufacturing Efforts Face Skilled Labor Shortage

NEW YORK— The topic of boosting American manufacturing as part of an effort to create additional employment opportunities has been a hot issue among politicians more recently and was frequently discussed during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Housewares suppliers in several core categories that currently make products in the U.S. expressed support for a stronger domestic manufacturing base, but also noted the challenges they face when looking to hire skilled personnel.

Suppliers across several core categories including small electrics, cookware and home environment, told HOMEWORLD BUSINESS® that a shortage of skilled workers has been an issue of late as they work to fill jobs at U.S.-based manufacturing facilities.
