UL: Bell + Howell Ultrasonic Bug Repellers Pose Safety Risk

The UL has issued a notification that two models of Bell + Howell ultrasonic pest repellers may pose a shock hazard. According to the UL, the pest repellers employ an electrical receptacle that is mis-wired and may pose an increased risk of shock.

In addition, the UL said that the pest repellers do not comply with UL’s safety standards and are not authorized to bear the UL Mark for the United States and Canada.

The Bell + Howell models are SB-104 and SB-194 and were manufactured between November 2012 to November 2014. There were approximately 20,000 to 25,000 units manufactured by Intellitec International Ltd. in Hong Kong.

The UL included the following identification information from the back of the models affected: Bell Howell, Direct Plug-In Ultrasonic Pest Repeller, C (UL) US LISTED, E213114, 49AJ; and Bell Howell, Ultra Sonic Bug Repellers, C (UL) US LISTED, 49AJE213114.
