In October, Walgreens cashed in sales of $6.8 billion, up 6.9% from the same month last year. Total front-end sales, including those for general merchandise such as home goods, gained 2.7% in October while comparable store front-end sales increased 2%.
Customer traffic in comparable stores decreased 1.9%, Walgreens related, but basket size increased 3.9%, according to the company.
Storewide, including pharmacy, comps increased by 5.6% in October, Walgreens stated.
Walgreens opened 16 stores in October, including four relocations, and closed one, it reported. On October 31, Walgreens operated 8,319 locations through the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The total included 8,218 drugstores, 87 more than a year ago, including 70 net stores acquired over the last 12 months.
