Sneeze guards are going up at checkstands across the United States, including at Walmart and other retailers.
Walmart has started installing plexiglass sneeze guard barriers at its pharmacy lanes in both Walmart and Sam’s Club and will install them at the regular Walmart checkouts over the next two to three weeks, the company stated.
Installing the sneeze guards is one of several initiatives that Walmart has undertaken to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. It also will begin using Hart brand two-gallon sprayer kits it currently sells in stores to sanitize shopping carts. It also will install floor decals in stores at entrances and in checkout lanes that will guide customers in maintaining the correct social distance from each other.
Kroger also is among the several retailers adding plexiglass sneeze guards at checkout and floor decals to help with social distancing as well as letting employees wear protective masks and gloves.
As Meijer adds plexiglass sneeze guards and X marks on floors to help with social distancing, it also is suspending the use of reusable bags by customers in its stores unless they’re taking advantage of the retailer’s Shop & Scan program.
