Janey Whiteside will join Walmart on August 1 in the newly created role of evp/chief customer officer for Walmart U.S. and Walmart e-commerce U.S., the company informed employees via an internal memo.
Barbara Messing also is joining Walmart as part of Whiteside’s team with the title svp/chief marketing officer, according to the memo distributed by Greg Foran, Walmart U.S. president and CEO, and Marc Lore, Walmart e-commerce U.S. president and CEO.
The creation of the chief customer officer position represents a change for Walmart, the memo stated, and reflects a passion for keeping the customer at the center of the operation. The memo went on to note that Whiteside would play a critical role maintaining the Walmart brand and addressing the customer journey from acquisition through the shopping experience and on to issue resolution. As such, Walmart proposed a holistic customer approach developed to help ensure seamless, cohesive and best-in-class experiences.
Whiteside joins Walmart from American Express, where she filled roles in international pricing, relationship management and marketing as well as customer engagement and global products, benefits and services. Messing worked for TripAdvisor before joining Walmart. There, she helped the online travel services operator evolve from a media-only business to one engaged in e-commerce.
Tony Rogers, who has been svp/chief marketing officer Walmart U.S. and Walmart e-commerce U.S., moves over to the company’s Sam’s Club division as chief member officer.
