Walmart continues to expand its e-commerce fulfillment operations with the opening of a new facility in Bethlehem, PA, that is dedicated to filling online orders.
The new 1.2 million square foot facility in the Majestic Bethlehem Center features state-of-the-art automation and warehousing systems, and created approximately 400 full-time jobs in the Lehigh Valley. The new fulfillment center is one of two Walmart facilities in the Lehigh Valley dedicated to filling online orders. The other is located at the region’s Industrial Park VII, which employs 200 people.
The retailer’s combined centers in eastern Pennsylvania are expected to generate nearly 1,000 new jobs over the next few years, the company said.
“The Bethlehem facility is part of a dense, multi-faceted network that combines new buildings, existing fulfillment assets, and our portfolio of stores to create thousands of points of distribution,” said Neil Ashe, chief executive officer, Walmart global e-commerce. “All of these elements working together enhance our ability to get more products to customers faster, at a lower cost, and provide more choices for shoppers.”
