According to local media in the Bentonville, AK, area, Walmart staged a grand opening of its first “Walmart To Go” convenience store concept in the community this morning. The sources said the store combines elements of a traditional convenience store, a mini grocery and a quick service restaurant.
A local television report showed that the store offers gas pumps up front and, inside, products ranging from power bars to bread to produce to beer and soft drinks, as well as DVDs, magazines and books.
Walmart characterized the To Go concept as a one-off test, at least for now, the sources noted. The company recently began to take its larger mini supermarket concept, Walmart Express, from test to preliminary rollout phase. The company now operates about 20 Express locations.
Appropriately enough for a store in Walmart’s headquarters community, the To Go test store is located on South Walton Boulevard.
