Wayfair Identifies Summer Outdoor Furnishing And Decor Trends

Upon analyzing a sample of more than 300,000 product orders, Wayfair has identified what it feels are the latest trends to watch for in outdoor entertaining products ranging from furniture, lighting, lawn and garden, and recreation.

Top summer home trends include resort-style lounging, relaxation and entertaining. Complete outdoor living room sets are said to be the most popular items this year, with chaise lounges a close second, the company said.

“Patios and decks across the country are being completely transformed into comfortable living and dining areas, yet with bolder and more playful choices in layouts and colors. We are seeing consumers really experiment with decor choices and also raise the bar on at-home entertaining with outdoor bars and over-the-top backyard games. From trampolines and inflatable bounce houses to traditional lawn games, the best fun this summer may be in your own backyard,” said Lauren Arkema, style director for Wayfair.com.

For entertaining, the high-top bars and barstools were among the retailer’s top-selling items. Modern design combined with bold colors are popping up in smaller spaces, the company noted. Cooler bars, which include a table top and cooler underneath, are Wayfair’s most popular items in this category, as they allow guests to refill without stepping away from the conversation. The retailer noted that the top states for outdoor entertaining are: DE, FL, NJ, MA and NH.

Top selling decorative accessories for the backyard include string lighting, outdoor rugs, lanterns, garden stools, and arbors and trellises.

Consumers are also showing a growing interest in gardening products that are designed for smaller spaces. Wayfair’s most popular garden products include composters, space-saving planters, self-watering planters, rain barrels and canning kits.

Backyard games are also big, with the most popular lawn game being the Cornhole Bean Bag Toss, followed by the frisbee game Kan Jam and then trampolines, bounce houses and badminton.
