Williams-Sonoma’s division West Elm is opening a Pasadena, CA, location in the Paseo Colorado retail development. The debut will include products created by 13 California-based makers offered as a part of West Elm’s local initiative to connect the community with designers and artisans from across the state.
Pasadena-based illustrator Pei Design will create a limited edition tote bag available free of charge to the first 300 shoppers who make a $50 minimum purchase, according to the retailer. Opening promotions include a sweepstakes offering local customers a chance to win a $2,000 gift card.
The 10,000 square foot store features a bespoke mural inspired by the planetary mapping projects undertaken by NASA’s nearby Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The mural, created by Richmond, CA, native and master potter Jered Nelson, consists of 12 by 12 textured tiles and features embedded countersunk hand-thrown spheres that represent impact craters.
West Elm operates 82 retail stores in the United States, Australia, Canada and the U.K.
