In the aftermath of its Education Breakfast, WithIt, the women’s leadership development network for the home and furnishings industries, donated a portion of its ticket proceeds as well as additional personal donations totaling over $5,100 to the Women’s Health Initiative at the City of Hope for cancer and women’s health research.
More than 100 industry leaders, designers and retailers attended the October 23 breakfast event held at the International Home Furnishing Center ballroom in High Point, NC. There, they learned about the work of Portuguese designer Joana Aranha. Aranha is the founder of Bunakara, which showed a newly launched collection at the Suites at Market Square building in High Point.
In the WithIt’s Winner’s Choice fundraising raffle, Caroline Hipple, a WithIt founding member and president of Norwalk Furniture, held the winning ticket. The prize was a choice of trips that included Scotland, Fiji, the Masters or London and Paris. The organization indicated that it would use raffle proceeds to support WithIt educational programs during its 20th anniversary year in 2017.
“It was such a great honor to be able to represent our WithIt members and friends to offer such a generous donation to City of Hope,” said Lorri Kelley, president of BDI and the vp/education for WithIt. “The work they are doing in research to eradicate the types of cancers that specifically target women is critically important, and being able to offer support for this initiative on behalf of everyone at WithIt was just terrific.”
